Graphic design has been my career and my passion for most of my adult life, and a large part of that is simply the delightful feeling of putting colors and shapes together, and seeing how that changes them. Add to that, the final flash…the splash that really draws and satisfies the eye…how absolutely fortunate I am to do this for a living! (See more about my design here)
I have always drawn and painted a little on the side, done pottery, sculpted out of clay, but it has remained on the side, until I had the pleasure of attending a workshop on acrylic painting…abstract, just picking the colors and going at it! It was like a long awaited release, and even though most of my painting now has much more planning involved (at least at some level)…I still feel that with virtually every piece!
Each item I create now, seems to pull from all of my experience; the design, the pottery, the fun with color. I feel that the overarching tone of most of my work is the swirling beauty and uncertainty that is so much of life, but then there is a calming element, a stable addition, that reflects my take on everything.
I like to work on hardboard, because it offers a stability that allows me toadd just about anything to the board if I want, wooden additions, stoneware or porcelain pieces, beadwork or gemstones. I also love working on wooden panels, using liquid acrylics as a stain, allowing the natural wood to show through.
Whether a piece is abstract, impressionistic or has a realistic edge, it all feels like a fantasy come true for me!
